When Laura and I sat down before Christmas to discuss what we should do with our injured chicken over the holidays, there was a lot to consider.
- All of us would be out of town for at least a week.
- Delilah’s wound still wasn’t totally healed, and if we put her back in the coop with the other ladies, she would probably be dead by the time we got home.
- Laura was going on a cruise and it was definitely against ship policy to bring live poultry on board.
- Bre had already planned on taking Sadie home for the holidays, and putting a chicken in the car with Beast Dog would not have been good.
- My holiday plans consisted of visiting family in Leavenworth, going to see my brother in Bellingham, then heading to Shelton for Christmas. It would be very difficult to take a chicken with me. Who does that?
I’ll be the first to admit that I was probably breaking the urban farming code as I considered bringing Delilah on my holiday journey across the state… but what was I to do? Leave her in Seattle and let her die?! I think not. On the 19th, I packed up the chicken and headed out of town. To best sum up the trials and tribulations of bringing home a chicken for the holidays, I thought it would be best illustrated in a customized version of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” Feel free to sing along

hahaha Yes. Many farm codes have been broken here
But, I like the song…
Bahahaha. Glad you like the song. When you get home from work I’m going to serenade you
I’m glad Delilah had such a great Christmas adventure! The other girls will be jealous now, and may see the error of their ways for pecking at her all this time (perhaps an illustrated kids’ book could be written).
Would it be possible to clip out pictures of the three chicken’s heads and make an Elf Yourself video?
HAHAHAHAHAHA. A few things. 1. Yes, I assume the other girls WILL be jealous. Delilah is well-traveled now. 2. I think an illustrated book is a grand idea. I’ll see what I can do. Perhaps Kaytay could be the illustrator. 3. I’ll consider making an Elf Yourself video. I need to talk to the flock first, but I’ll report back.
